Osmocote 5 Stories: Trials in Southern Poland

Meet the next generation of controlled-release fertilizers: Osmocote 5. The future of stronger and healthier plants is hidden in each of its small granules. With ingenious OTEA-system and brand new NutriMatch-Release technology growers get access to an advanced level of fertilizers, offering exceptional plant health and leaf color. The past year, we have asked customers from all over the world to test the impact of Osmocote 5. In a series of customer stories, we like to share the outcome of the very first trials. These are our customer’s experiences.

We asked two nurseries from the south of Poland (Bielsko-Biała area) to test Osmocote 5. Both nurseries are located in an area with a demanding climate. Winters can be long and snowy. It even snows in April, when the rest of the country is already enjoying the blooming tulips. In summer, westerly and northwesterly winds dominate and bring heavy (and sometimes violent) rainfall.

Osmocote 5: Grower’s experiences of Pawica Nursery

The nursery of Anna and Jerzy Pawica covers three generations and has been using Osmocote for nearly 10 years. Anna: “We produce deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs in containers with a capacity of 2 to 100 liters. We value the safety and consistent supply of nutrients of Osmocote. Especially in the cultivation of magnolias and azaleas, which require a stable level of nutrients in the substrate."

“The results exceeded our expectations. We sold our Taxus quickly, because they were good-looking, healthy, dense, and well-branched, with a strong root system. We obtained the highest quality result.”

In the production of deciduous plants, Osmocote Exact High K is used in the nursery’s current practice, thanks to which the bushes are better branched and compact. In conifers mainly Osmocote Exact Hi.End is used, which makes them well-grown, colored, and nourished until the end of the season. Anna: “This year we were happy to test the new Osmocote 5 (5-6 months). We chose Taxus for the trial, which we planted in April, and added 3.5-4 g of fertilizer per liter of the substrate. The results exceeded our expectations. We sold our Taxus quickly, because they were good looking, healthy, dense, and well-branched, with a strong root system. We obtained the highest quality result.”

Osmocote 5: Grower’s experiences of Grzegorz Białomazur

The second nursery we asked to test Osmocote 5 is owned by Grzegorz Białomazur. He specializes in the production of heather and acidophilic plants (such as Calluna, Rhododendron, Hebe), which need a constant, safe level of nutrients. Grzegorz: “I used to apply cheaper fertilizers, but I was not satisfied with the results. I realized that a cheaper fertilizer does not save money in the long run. Choosing a high quality fertilizer results in a better return on investment. Therefore, I was happy to test Osmocote 5 at a dose of 4 g / l substrate."

“All plants had strongly developed root systems and an intense leaf coloring. In the following years I will continue applying Osmocote 5, so my plants can sell themselves, without any effort.”

Grzegorz was happy with the results of the Osmocote 5 trial. “I never had such beautiful plants before. The Japanese Azaleas have grown dense and will bloom profusely in spring, making them easier to sell. Heathers were better colored, with a deeper, more intense color. The early varieties bloomed earlier, so I was able to sell them earlier. All plants had a strongly developed root system and an intense coloring. In the following years I will continue applying Osmocote 5, so my plants can sell themselves, without any effort.”
