I want a new lawn

Creating a new lawn? We are happy to advise you. The step-by-step plan below is based on the many years of experience of Landscaper Pro and the adaptation to new developments, techniques and requirements of gardeners, landscapers and green care companies.

Step 1: Soil analysis

The soil structure is essential for good root growth. In more than 70% of the soil samples from lawns, according to data from soil experts, the pH level is too high. A soil analysis helps you to choose the right fertilizer, possibly in combination with soil improvers such as organic products. The choice of organic matter is determined by, among other things, availability, risk of salt damage, nitrogen fixation, weed seeds and soil cultivation. Our advice: Take a soil sample for analysis. In making the right choices for soil improvers and fertilization, we are happy to advise you personally based on the analysis report.

Step 2: Soil cultivation new lawn

Causes of most lawn problems can be found in the soil. Being the foundation of your lawn, influencing and improving the soil is the cheapest and easiest strategy for problem-free, healthy turf. The best time to do this is obviously when laying out a new lawn. Soil preparation under good conditions is important. Poor conditions (too wet, too shallow, only with a cultivator, etc.) will not give the desired result. Also consider an irrigation system, now there is the chance to install it. Our advice: Take the circumstances into account and plan the soil cultivation in time.

  • Plough up the soil (approx. 15-40 cm deep)
  • Incorporate compost or soil improver into the soil
  • If desired: install an irrigation system
  • Choose the correct amount of calcium (if necessary) and the correct fertilizer based on the soil analysis.
  • Crumble and level the top layer and mix the calcium and fertilizer through the top layer of the soil.
  • Level again if necessary.
  • The soil is now ready for sowing or laying sod.

Step 3: Laying out a new lawn

If you are going to lay out a new lawn, the choice of grass type or mixture is very important. Regardless whether you are going to sow or lay sod. If you are sowing yourself, you are not dependent on the soil type. You can choose the grass types that suit the purpose of the lawn more specifically. When fertilizing a newly created lawn, it is important that the young grass plants immediately receive the correct fertilizer. Fertilization should not inhibit due to salt build-up. Our advice:

Define the purpose/use of the lawn, analyze the local conditions and determine what properties the turf should have. Based on this, choose the right grass seed mixture. Apply the fertilizer preferably on a dry lawn and not during frost or extreme drought. Irrigation after spreading promotes a rapid start thanks to quick penetration of the granules.

Fertilizer program advice

Get the new lawn off to a good start by using Landscaper Pro New Grass. The fertilizer contains high level of phosphate, which promotes the root development of new grass. The nutrients are released evenly over 3 months, so that the turf constantly receives the nutrition it needs. To be provided with enough nutrition after those 3 months, we recommend applying Landscaper Pro All Round. A green, healthy and strong lawn is guaranteed!
