Potato

Potato has a high nitrogen requirement but K- requirement is even higher. High calcium application enhances tubers' storability. Potatoes grow well on most soil types, organic as well as mineral, and in most soil structures, but harvesting is more efficient in light soils if mechanical harvesting is practiced. Minimum soil-pH is 5.5. Slightly alkaline soils can adversely affect skin quality, and highly alkaline conditions can induce micronutrient deficiencies. Potato is considered as chloride-sensitive crop. Best potato mineral nutrition regime includes the use of CRF’s and foliar feeding. In certain areas fertigation with fully-soluble fertilizers is also practiced.
