Carrot

Carrot is a heavy potassium and calcium feeder. It requires 3-fold and 2-fold of these nutrients, respectively, as compared to the nitrogen rate. Potassium promotes solid, sweet carrots.

Cauliflower grows best on a neutral or slightly acid soil (pH 6,0 to 6,5). Special attention must be paid to sufficient application of Boron, since a deficiency in this element will result in a hollow stem.

Cucumber

Cucumber plants are high potassium and calcium requiring crops. While calcium is required at similar rates as nitrogen, potassium is required at about 80% higher rate.

Eggplant

Eggplant requires high levels of potassium, and removes it at a rate ~40% higher than nitrogen. Optimum growth temperature is 21–29 °C, with preferably little temperature variation.

Melon

All melon varieties are heavy potassium-feeders, as they require K at rates 2.4-fold higher than nitrogen. Melons prefer deep soils, well-supplied with organic matter and a pH around neutral.

Spinach

Spinach has a high nutrient requirement, so soil should be deep and fertile. It has a moderate salt tolerance, and its yield-loss salinity-threshold is 3-4 dS/m.

Capsicum

This crop is a heavy potassium and calcium feeder. Potassium is removed at a rate ~50% higher than nitrogen. Calcium deficiency inevitably produces "blossom-end rot" of the fruit.

Tomato

Tomato is a high potassium and calcium requiring crop. Potassium is removed at a rate ~80% higher than nitrogen. Calcium deficiency inevitably produces "blossom-end rot" of the fruit. Tomatoes are rather resistant to salinity.
