Growth habits and characteristics

Transcontinental SMG has a fine blade width and an enthusiastic, spreading growth habit. It is very deep rooted with aggressive rhizomes and delivers a uniform, dense turf with a dark green color.

It displays excellent performance in heat and humidity while showing great tolerance to periods of drought. It is great to use for a quick spring green-up.

Directions for Use

Establishment and maintenance
For best results, apply hulled seed at 10 – 15 gr/m2 and coated seed at 20 – 25 gr/m2. Plant between spring and mid-summer, planting in autumn is not recommended.

In optimal temperatures (16° - 18°C), germinating will begin within 10 – 14 days. Do not plant when temperatures are below 15°C. Full coverage occurs in approximately 8 weeks. For fast coverage and density: provide optimal irrigation, early weed control, frequent (light) Nitrogen applications and mowing. Before cutting for the first time, make sure the turf has reached approximately 2.5cm.

Established Turf Maintenance
For high-performance fertilize at 2 – 5 gr/m2. Make sure to apply deep, irregular irrigations throughout the growing season.

For ideal turf quality: aeration, renovation and topdressing are recommended during the active growing season. For a good winter color, over-seed with high-quality perennial ryegrass at 50 – 75 gr/m2. ICL recommends a cutting height of 10 – 50mm.
