ICL's Martin Donnelly

What’s your official job title?

Sales development manager for horticulture.

How long have you worked for ICL?

I started this March, so about five months. Before I joined ICL, I worked for Certis for nearly 12 years, in a similar role with a broad range of responsibilities including integrated pest management, and sales and development for edibles and ornamental crops.

What does your job entail on a daily basis?

I work closely with Andrew Wilson, our technical manager, on the plant protection side of the business. A lot of my time is spent on the road, around the West Midlands, Derbyshire and some of Yorkshire, visiting end users, distributors and agronomists with my sales hat on. The most exciting aspect of my role is helping to develop new products.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

The diverse nature of my job. There’s lots going on and I wear many hats, from sales to technical and research and development. I’m a people person, so I really enjoy being out and about, dealing with a wide variety of individuals every day.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I like to keep fit, and I do lots of running, cardiovascular exercise as well as walking. My favourite sports are squash and snooker… depending on how energetic I’m feeling!

Are there any interesting facts about you?

I’ve run a few marathons, and I’ve also walked up Mount Snowdon. I plan to complete the Yorkshire three peaks in the near future.
