New Peters® Excel pHLow® 21-7-7 Acid Hammer Fertilizer Feeds Acid- Loving Plants, Reduces Growing Media pH Levels

DUBLIN, OH (Jan. 18, 2017) – Growers know that lighting, humidity, temperature and soil conditions have a tremendous impact on their plants. Water quality also plays a primary role, with hard, highly alkaline water potentially decreasing a plant’s ability to take up certain nutrients. Now, ICL Specialty Fertilizers is helping to alleviate the effects of hard water on plants by adding a new formulation to its line of Peters® Excel pHLow® water soluble fertilizers – 21-7-7 Acid Hammer.

"While the entire Peters Excel pHLow line is designed to perform well in hard water, Acid Hammer has its own unique benefits," said Kurt Brace, ornamental horticulture marketing manager for ICL Specialty Fertilizers. "It’s ideal for acid-loving plants and those plants that need a lower pH level in their growing media to thrive. And, it’s much safer to handle than traditional acids."

ICL’s Peters Excel pHLow fertilizers, including Acid Hammer, contain a unique technology called Pekacid® which replaces the conventional application of technical- and agricultural-grade phosphoric acid, resulting in a safer, easier and more effective fertilization process. Acid Hammer also immediately reduces water alkalinity, decreasing or eliminating the need to use mineral acids on acid-loving crops.

Effective on waters with alkalinity readings up to 300 ppm, Acid Hammer also fights excessive pH rise in root zones as plants take up the fertilizer. Acid Hammer’s high sulfur level prevents yellow, stunted plants, while its high iron level helps maintain green foliage on iron-inefficient plants. Chelated micronutrients are soluble and available in plant root zones, and a low P to N ratio helps prevent plant stretching.

"While applying Acid Hammer certainly helps improve the appearance and quality of plants, it also prevents scale build-up in irrigation lines and drip emitters," Brace said. "Thus, growers can produce healthier, more beautiful plants and spend less time troubleshooting irrigation equipment for an overall more positive impact on their bottom lines."
