Potatoes grow on a wide range of climates, but the optimal day temperature sits between 15 and 20 °C. It develops well on most soil types, but harvesting is more efficient in light soils.

 

A good soil structure is required, since this crop prefers well drained, aerated and porous soils. Optimal soil-pH is between 5 and 6. Slightly alkaline soils can adversely affect skin quality, and highly alkaline conditions can induce micronutrient deficiencies.

 

Potato is considered a chloride-sensitive crop. Potato has an elevated nitrogen consumption and even higher potassium requirements. Sufficient calcium applications enhance tubers' storability.
