Gary Adkins - Commercial Manager (Specialty Agriculture)

What’s your official job title?

I’m the commercial manager for speciality agriculture.

How long have you worked for ICL?

I’ve worked for ICL since they took over Amega Sciences two and a half years ago, and I was with the company for just over 16 years. So, I now work on both the Amega and ICL sides of the business.

What does your job entail on a daily basis?

I’m responsible for all the distribution relationships and the commercial side of the ICL branded products and also all of the Amega Sciences own label agricultural products.
A typical day is varied, but I spend a lot of time working with the lab staff to come up with new product formulations, I also work closely with our distributors, put packages and proposals together and look after the internal staff training.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

The aspect I enjoy the most is the varied nature of the job, I work with lots of different customers and a great range of products, some are our own label and others are branded.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

If I have any spare time, rugby is my sport and passion, to watch and enjoy. Before the birth of my second child I used to play to quite a high standard. I went to Rugby School, so I grew up around it. I played for my university as well as a team in Manchester, but I’ve taken a step back and am happy to spectate now.

Are there any random facts about you?

I’m an ice cricket world champion - I went to Estonia and won the ice cricket world cup with a team of my friends, which I’m pretty sure not many people have done! It’s exactly what it sounds like, a game of cricket played on a frozen lake in Estonia against teams from across the world. We were better on ice than we are at real cricket!
