Growers are invited to join ICL and BASF at Fruit Science Live, where they will have the opportunity to get an exclusive insight into seven of the latest trials hosted at the FAST (Fruit Advisory Services Team) headquarters in Kent.

The event will take place on 24 July 2018 and will be open to anyone who wants to find out more about some of the most innovative trials and new products for top, soft and stone fruit, as well as how they can benefit growers.

Pre-event guided tractor tours of the National Fruit Collection will get underway at 3pm for those who wish to come early. Here visitors will be able to view over 3,500 fruit varieties being grown as part of a programme to protect genetic resources for the future.

Delegates will then gather for welcome drinks, ahead of the main trials tours, which move off at 5pm providing plenty of time for questions at each station.

This will be followed by a barbeque, networking opportunities and further time for discussions with technical representatives of ICL, BASF and FAST.

A variety of trials will be showcased during the evening, including:

  • Two separate second year trials on ICL’s Agrolution range of fertilisers, on strawberry and blueberry plants

  • A demonstration station on BASF’s latest SDHI chemistry for the preventative control of powdery mildew in strawberry crops, as well as two options for scab control in top fruit – Sercadis and Delan Pro, which have both recently been trialled

  • ICL’s water conservation agent trials will be in their second year, and visitors will be able to see how the product can help to save on irrigation costs while improving crop yields

  • Two apple trials – one funded by AHDB looking into how trimming practices affect dry matter content, and the other considering the benefits of multi-stem growing options

Richard Collins, ICL technical sales manager, points out that the two trials assessing the benefits of the Agrolution nutrition range, will be in their second year.

“This means returning delegates will have the opportunity to see how the trials are progressing, in terms of increased yields and reduced labour costs associated with conventional options,” says Richard.

The BASF team will also give a teaser of the next generation of products soon to join its top fruit portfolio.
