1. Magnesium plays an important role for the chlorophyll build up in the green parts of a plant.
In the period of vegetative growth enough magnesium supply should be provided to grow the green plant parts. In the soil magnesium is in competition with manganese and calcium. Therefore sufficient supply in soils with high levels of manganese and calcium is needed. Besides chlorophyll development magnesium is essential for root development as well.
